Datum (a DYWIDAG-Systems International) company is proud to be shortlisted for an award in the 2019 NCE Tunnelling Awards!
Specifically, Datum has been shortlisted for its scope of works at the Sirius Minerals project – Woodsmith Mine, North Yorkshire, where Datum designed a system to monitor the entire length of the 60m deep production shaft, a system that would survive the pressures from the concrete pour, placement and connection of the densely packed reinforcing cages and breakdown for pile cap construction.
The site constraints meant power and communications to the system were extremely limited, requiring a renewable and highly sustainable solar powered solution. The monitoring solution at Woodsmith Mine used the most innovative sensors and wireless technology, to stream critical data from the shaft construction continuously and reliably. The data presentation system (Platform Interactive) is used throughout the project, both above and below ground, and as it will be used for many years to come has been designed to be upgraded and accessible.
The winners will be announced at the Tunnelling Festival’s gala dinner, on 5 December 2019, at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, London Tower Bridge.
