Datum Showcase Remote Blast Monitoring at IQ Centenary Conference

October 24, 2017

Datum were proud to support the Institute of Quarrying Centenary Conference.

Our team joined delegates to discuss quarrying and mining techniques and showcased the remote monitoring solutions provided by Datum Group and partners EPC Metrics.

EPC Metrics is a service provided by the Datum Group and EPC-UK to provide a dedicated remote monitoring service for blast vibration and air over-pressure movement.

This innovative solution to blast monitoring is enhanced by the presentation of data through Datum Interactive’s developed innovative software suite, Platform Interactive.

Platform Interactive allows clients to remotely monitor testing – and crucially removes the costly requirement of needing operatives to travel to site and take manual readings.

Datum Group Business Development Analyst Chris Morrison, said: “We were delighted to support the IQ Centenary Conference and to join delegates in discussing ways of improving the well being of those working within the industry.

“The main theme was the importance the industry has to operatives working within it, and the value of providing proper support to those people working in the quarrying and mining sector.

“We believe a clear way of improve the working conditions for operatives is to remove those people from areas of danger and our remote monitoring solutions has obvious safety benefits.

“The monitoring equipment developed with EPC-UK provides more accurate and consistent data which can be accessed by our highly innovative software suite Platform Interactive.”

Delegates from around the world attended the IQ Centenary Conference at the Belfry Hotel in Sutton Coldfield on October 19th, 2017.  The event followed the opening of the IQ Quarry Garden at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire.

The garden is a re-imagining of the IQ Quarry Garden that won Best in Show and a RHS Gold Medal at this year’s RHS Chatsworth Flower Show. It is now permanently installed at the NMA for all to enjoy.

Olympic gold medal winning rower Helen Glover, provided an inspirational speech for delegates at the IQ Centenary dinner which followed the conference, whilst James Thorne, CEO of the Institute of Quarrying, told the conference how the Institute were aiming for 5000 members in the UK by 2021.
