The Datum Group Starts Shaft Monitoring at Woodsmith Mine

The Datum Group has been awarded the instrumentation and monitoring contract for the Sirius Minerals Woodsmith Mine project in North Yorkshire.

The Datum Group, a leading global monitoring company, has been awarded the instrumentation and monitoring contract, by Bauer Technologies Ltd, for the Sirius Minerals’ £2.2bn mine development in North Yorkshire – a project destined to become one of Britain’s most significant mines, producing polyhalite, a high value multi-nutrient organic fertiliser.

Specifically, Datum will provide instrumentation and monitoring for the main diaphragm wall circular shafts, being installed by Bauer Technologies, on behalf of Sirius Minerals Plc, which are to depths of 60m. The extensive monitoring solution has been created specifically for Bauer Technologies, to satisfy the requirements of Sirius Minerals and will see Datum install sensor arrays to measure the performance of the shafts for design verification. Datum’s on line data management system Platform Interactive (PI) will be used to collate and interactively present data from many hundreds of strain gauges and in-place inclinometers. PI will allow all stakeholders access to the data where-ever they are in the world – in real time.
